GENEVA (AP) -- American sprinters who were stripped of their 2000 Olympics relay medals because teammate Marion Jones was doping won an appeal Friday to have them restored.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the women, who had appealed the International Olympic Committee's decision to disqualify them from the Sydney Games.

The court said the IOC and International Association of Athletics Federations rules in 2000 did not allow entire teams to be disqualified because of doping by one athlete.

The IOC said the ruling was "disappointing and especially unfortunate for the athletes of the other teams who competed according to the rules." Read More...
The July 26th edition of ESPN The Magazine will feature an article by writer Chris Palmer and it features former Timberwolf, Rashad McCants. The article gives a very raw look at McCants and there are some interesting quotes by former teammates, coaches and executives. SYRACUSE, NY - MARCH 25: Rashad McCants #32 of the North Carolina Tar Heels claps as the clock winds down on their 67-66 victory over the Villanova Wildcats during their regional semi-final game on March 25, 2005 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York. He is talented, works hard, gets a long with most teammates, but he is stubborn, hard-headed and not liked by most executives Read More...
Penny Hardaway thinks he has something left in the tank, and thinks that whatever it is in his tank can help the loaded Miami Heat win a championship.

Hardaway has reached out to the Heat, asking for an audition to join up with LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, according to Shannon J. Owens of the Orlando Sentinel. Hardaway last played in 2007-08 with the Heat, starting eight games for the depleted, doomed squad before being cut at midseason. Hardaway wasn't particularly successful, scoring infrequently and inefficiently, and turning the ball over a bunch. Read More...

UPDATE 0730 GMT: In case you’re wondering — and I know you are — Paul has picked Spain to defeat Holland in tonight’s final.

I have been fortunate to follow the story of Paul the Octopus since the start of the World Cup when EA’s German Bureau notified me of this wondrous eight-tentacled psychic and his ability to predict the outcome of football matches.

We continued to watch as Paul’s fame grew and reached the mainstream media, but on Thursday — the day after Spain defeated Germany 1-0 in the World Cup semifinal — we were put on Special Alert by the German Bureau. Read More...
The Warriors are close to signing a three-year contract with free agent small forward Dorell Wright, according to multiple sources.
The signing would likely spell the end of guard Anthony Morrow’s tenure with the Warriors.

According to a team source, the Warriors have had their sights on a defensive-minded, true small forward they could fit under the mid-level exception. Wright topped the Warriors wish lost, and – as it turns out – the Warriors top his.
Wrights deal is not complete, but it’s looking like his deal is three years in length, averaging of more than $3 million per year. Read More...
According the the Castrol Performance data, Spain should take their chances at goal from distance in the World Cup 2010 final in South Africa, as the stats show that Holland goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has been guilty of conceding most goals (3) in the finals from shots taken from outside the box.

Stekelenburg has conceded five goals in total in his six World Cup appearances, compared to just two conceded in the same number of games by Spain’s Iker Casillas.

Casillas appears to be a more reliable goalkeeper than Maarten Stekelenburg, having saved a higher proportion of shots than his Dutch counterpart.

The Real Madrid player has so far kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper at the 2010 FIFA World Cup (four) and proven decisive on many occasions including a penalty saved in the quarter final against Paraguay, despite UK TV commentators constantly telling viewers how shaky he looks! The long-awaited World Cup 2010 Final between Netherlands and Spain finally kicks off Saturday afternoon in Johannesburg, and an estimated 70% of the globe will be tuning in the game in some shape, form or fashion. This preview and analysis of the World Cup 2010 championship match will focus on anticipated key player match ups, and what to look for from both sides.
Wesley Sneider

Dutchman Wesley Sneijder is one of the most efficient players in the World Cup 2010. He sits atop the pack (along with the Spaniard Villa and Germany's Mueller) with five goals in the tournament, but he accomplished that spectacular feat with only 22 shots on goal. Sneidjer is officially listed as a midfielder, but with the one man forward strategy used by coach Bert van Marwijk, Sneijder essentially plays the role of a striker. He was very fortunate in that FIFA awarded him the goal that glanced off of Felipe Melo's head in the quarterfinal match against Brazil.
David Villa

Spaniard David Villa has been positively dominant throughout World Cup 2010 in South Africa. He too has notched five goals, and amazingly he has scored five out of the seven goals scored total by La Furia Roja. Villa did surpr Read More...
There are only two matches left in the 2010 World Cup. Saturday's game between Germany and Uruguay will determine who takes third place, and Sunday is the final showdown: Spain vs. the Netherlands. Paul, the oracle octopus that has correctly called the outcome of each of Germany's six matches, has made his final predictions.

On Friday, Paul indicated that Spain will win it all, lifting the World Cup trophy for the first time ever. (When presented with two identical clear boxes, each containing a mussel, but one adorned with Spain's flag and the other bearing Holland's flag, he gobbled down the treat from Spain's container first). The Trail Blazers on Thursday evening met with free agent guard Wesley Matthews, who became a starter last season as a rookie with Utah after going undrafted out of Marquette.

Come Sunday night, two of the greatest teams never to have won the World Cup will be battling it out to win that famous trophy. Yes that’s right folks – the 2010 FIFA World Cup is finally coming to an end tomorrow, with the final taking place between Netherlands and Spain.

As reported over at sport.stv.tv, Spain, who unfortunately kicked off their World Cup campaign rather poorly with a loss to Switzerland, have peaked just at the right time. They managed to overcome their semi-final opponents Germany 1-0, to secure their place in the final.

Netherlands on the other hand have played brilliantly right from the off, winning all six of their games in South Africa. If they end up winning the 2010 World Cup final on Sunday, they will become the third nation to win a major tournament having won every match from the start. Read More...

Free-agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh will sign with the Chicago Bulls, according to one NBA executive who spoke with the New York Times Sunday.

“I think it’s a done deal,” the executive told the Times.

The unnamed NBA exec's opinion would back up a tweet former Chicago Bull and ESPN analyst Jalen Rose made last week.

"My sources say it is almost certain LeBron James will not be returning to the Cavs (Bulls/Heat/Clips)," Rose tweeted.

March 1 James applied for a jersey number change from No. 23 to No. 6 for the 2010-2011 season. Last November James said he wanted the NBA to retire the No. 23 out of respect to his hero Michael Jordan.

According to the report by the New York Times, representatives from the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and New Jersey Nets will meet with James Thursday July 1 in Cleveland. Read More...
Major League Soccer's ninth soccer-specific stadium opens its gates along the Delaware River, as the Philadelphia Union take to the PPL Park pitch in Chester, Pa., for the first time.

The Seattle Sounders and the Union will play in the stadium's opening match (5 p.m., ESPN2/ESPN Deportes) in a rematch of the season's opening night. The Sounders took that game, 2-0, on March 26, as the Union went a man down in the 40th minute and couldn't recover.

The Union will look for the same adrenaline rush that propelled them to a winner in their initial home opener, when they defeated D.C. United, 3-2, at Lincoln Financial Field on April 10 behind a Sebastien Le Toux hat trick.

I'll be providing live commentary from a sold-out PPL Park, so please feel free to follow along and share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Enjoy the match (commentary after the jump).

There is very very nice and so well fighter and this time Cris Cyborg to destroy Jan Finney on Saturday night’s Strikeforce card. Everyone was right, as Cyborg demolished Finney in a brutal mismatch, winning by second-round TKO.

Finney landed a nice right hand immediately at the start of the fight and clinched with Cyborg against the cage, but then Cyborg went to work, whaling on Finney with punches and a knee to the face. Cyborg was badly beating Finney and appeared close to finishing her on the ground, but Cyborg hit Finney on the back of the head, causing referee Kim Winslow to step in, take a point away from Cyborg, and give Finney time to recover. You’ll probably have to watch the video below a few times just to believe what your seeing. Yes that is Fedor Emelianenko losing by triangle choke to Fabricio Werdum, the man nobody gave a chance of defeating ‘The Last Emperor’.

In the biggest shocker in MMA history, Fabricio Werdum submits Fedor Emelianenko with an armbar. Fedor looked to finish early, but fell into multiple submission attempts by Werdum. One of them finally took hold. Fedor taps. And it’s all over. For Strikeforce. This can’t be good. The organization claimed the spotlight by signing the “undefeated” heavyweight away from the UFC. Now, he’s damaged goods. He’s easily still top 3 in the world, but his aura of invincibility is forever shattered.

Fabricio was a 6-1 underdog coming into this fight, but Werdum wasn’t fazed by Fedor’s impressive career or the line, and fought his fight. Greatest win of his career and he should enjoy the spotlight, because I feel it’ll be short-lived when he faces off against current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem, in his next bout. Former UFC champion Frank Shamrock announced his retirement at Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum.
